“I was anti-matchmaking”
“Stay out of the my relationship business, don’t get involved…leave me alone!” This was Michele’s reaction whenever her roommate, Lauren, would try to set her up with Shane. Plus, Michele’s roommate was quite the budding professional matchmaker, because it felt like she was setting Michele up with everyone.
“Yeah, she’s crazy. Run the other way!”
“So the day that he came over to so-called ‘pick up homework,’ I was thinking..oh, Lauren totally set that up! She’s such a brat!” Lauren had arranged for Shane, known around campus as that ‘great guy Shane football player number 19′, to “pick up homework” at their place, and Michele, incidentally, was “arranged” to open the door when Shane came over.
Michele chuckled, thinking back the first time she and Shane crossed path. “I just remembered..from the second I opened the door, till I shut it, he just had this huge smile on his face….I remember thinking how he had such a GREAT smile.”
Shane looked over as Michele told me the story, giving that great smile nonetheless, “Yeah, I was pretty pumped to see her.”
WELL, Michele, you only have Lauren to thank for this.
Michele and Shane met again the night of his birthday, December 22, when he came over for a gathering with Lauren’s family.
“I got there at 10pm..and we talked till 3am.”
December 19th the following year, less than a year since they met, Shane proposed to Michele on her porch, surrounded by snow and Christmas lights. The same porch, above, that they spent the last moments alone with each other before getting married.
